Cape Ann Scanner app

Help & Support

The Cape Ann Scanner app is the volunteer ticket-scanning tool used at Cape Ann Symphony concert doors. Volunteers use it to scan the QR code on each patron’s ticket — printed, on a phone, or in Apple or Google Wallet — and the app confirms the ticket is valid for that performance.

Using the app

Getting started

Open the app, type your name (it goes in the scan log so the box office knows who admitted each guest), and tap Start Scanning. Point the camera at the ticket’s QR code — no need to press anything; it reads automatically. If a code won’t read (crumpled paper, cracked screen), tap Enter manually and type the ticket number printed under the QR code.

What the screens mean

  • Green — Welcome. The ticket is good. The patron’s name and ticket type (Adult, Senior, Student, Youth) are shown. Wave them in — the scanner resets by itself.
  • Red — Already scanned. This ticket already got someone in, and the screen says when and who scanned it. Usually someone in the party used it earlier, or two phones are showing the same ticket.
  • Red — Wrong concert. The ticket is real but belongs to a different performance — the screen names it, so you can point the patron to the right date or venue.
  • Red — Unknown ticket. The number doesn’t match any order. Double-check the digits with manual entry; if it still fails, send the patron to the box office.

A red screen stays up until you tap Done, so take your time. It tells you what probably went wrong and what to try. If their order has another ticket that works for today’s concert, tap Check in to use it.

Before doors open, the banner at the top shows the next event; it turns green (“doors open”) an hour before showtime. An orange “syncing” badge means the app is saving scan records in the background — it clears on its own and no scans are lost, even if the venue Wi-Fi drops.

Trouble?

  • Black screen instead of camera: the app needs camera permission — go to iPhone Settings → Cape Ann Scanner and turn on Camera.
  • “Connection error” on every scan: check the device’s Wi-Fi or cellular signal, then re-scan the same ticket — nothing is lost by retrying.
  • “No events scheduled today” is normal on non-concert days.
  • App setup questions (which server, access keys): these are configured by the box-office manager before each season — volunteers never need to change settings.
